Google Earth overlay of Egypt protests available
http://www.gearthblog.com/blog/archives/2011/02/aerial_imagery_of_the_protests_in_e.html

<snip>
GeoEye does a great job of capturing fresh imagery from a variety of noteworthy events throughout the world. In the past, they've provided imagery from Burning Man 2010, the volcano in Iceland last April and President Obama's inauguration two years ago.

I've taken this latest image and added it to Google Earth as an overlay, so you can download this KML file to see it for yourself.

Cool!

1. Not useful at all. Just go to the coordinates for the area: 30.048, 31.2345.

What use is an image of Google Earth as an overlay in Google Earth?
The original is there, so why mask it with a static image?

Just turn on 3-D layers in Layers, and you can see the same from any perspective.

2. You can still use 3D buildings and rotational view WITH the overlay...
The overlay shows tank positions, checkpoints, where the crowds are etc...

This was the same view we saw Wednesday night during Rachel & Richard Engel's broadcast.

10. If you don't have Google Earth installed...
Edited on Sat Feb-05-11 07:39 AM by Dennis Donovan
Go here: http://www.google.com/earth/index.html

Once GE's installed, click on the link in my OP and it will download and display in GE. You can navigate in GE with your mouse (drag w/ left mouse, zoom in and out with your mouse scroll wheel). I haven't seen any other overlays in regards to the Egypt situation yet, but will post them to DU.:hi:
